“Flourish”

E-Commerce App

UI Design | UX Design | Branding | Case Study

The goal for this project of my CareerFoundry UI Design course, was to develop a brand for an E-Commerce-App or Online Store that features a sorting system for products, as well as a clear and dynamic overall User Experience.

I chose to design the brand for a rare plant store and develop an accompanying App-Prototype.

The Branding Document

The first step was to develop a fictitious brand, for which we wanted to develop an app prototype. Connecting to my own interests, I decided to make up a brand that sells rare houseplants.

User Stories

To make the users problems and requirements tangible, the next step was to articulate the user stories and building a user flow diagram out of them, to show their interconnectivity and relation.

User Flow Diagram

Taking the user stories as the foundation, I developed the flow and functions of the E-Commerce App.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

The first drafts of the app screens show parts of the user flow diagram.

Mid Fidelity Wireframes

I refined the low-fidelity wireframes and build a prototype for the following user testings. In these the mid-fidelity wireframes, I started to slowly incorporate aspects of the branding, so that feedback could be gathered on choices like the font and it’s colour.

User Testing & Feedback

I gave the testing participants a scenario/ a task to do, and let them carry out the task while I observed and made notes. Below are the notes and their analysis.

High Fidelity Wireframes

After the user testings, I applied the branding to the mid-fidelity wireframes and tweaked them where necessary.

Reflection & Key Learnings

For a possible next iteration of this project, I would love to refine the search function, since plants tend to have confusing names and not all users know a plant by name. So, for example, searching for leaf shapes, colours, light requirements etc would be a great solution for a problem like that.

Overall, I am very content with this project, especially considering the short amount of time and it being a solo project.
